Gluten-Free Corner

Seven years ago I learned that I was gluten, dairy and soy intolerant. Having been known as an enthusiastic baker in college, this discovery stopped me in my tracks. Initially the question was: “What now?” Thankfully there are so many wonderful resources nationally, internationally, online and locally that I had everywhere to look and learn. After many mistakes, ruined recipes, and a very patient husband, my kitchen is free of my dietary enemies (except for my hubby’s treats/breads that are sequestered).   The Brown Hound Bistro On a sunny Monday afternoon, we stopped for an early dinner at The Brown Hound Bistro.  This cozy establishment is on the south west side of Canandaigua Lake in the town of South Bristol.  Head Chef Evan Schapp creates a locally sourced and seasonal menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  We chose to sit on the deck in the back of the building, away from the road and under a delightful white and red canopy.   Our selections were quickly picked off the menu after hearing the enticing daily specials.  We shared the Truffle Potatoes… Read more

Bristol Harbour Restaurant

   Bristol Harbour Resort is located on the west side of Canandaigua Lake and offers spectacular views looking south over the lake.  The views are unbeatable and worth the drive there.  The resort offers overnight accommodations and is known for their spa and championship style golf course.
