Happy Easter! 2003 Chateau LaGrange with Rib Roast

April 1, 2018

Just a short video to wish everyone a Happy Easter! Leah and I had a delicious rib roast with a 2003 Chateau LaGrange from St. Julien in Bordeaux. A very delicate nose and descent palate of green vegetables, blue berries and cassis. A lot of tannin for a wine thats pushing 15 years old.

Forge Cellars 2015 Pinot Noir Classique

March 18, 2018

As pinot enthusiasts, it is hard for us to resist an unfamiliar bottle on the shelf. Especially when the pinot hails from the Finger Lakes. This is no exception and even satisfies the wine geek in the process. Forge Cellars is a small operation that boasts dry Rieslings and Pinot Noir on their roster. This wine, as with all of their bottles, is unfiltered, hand picked and hand sorted. Garnet in color, it reveals primarily smoke, plumb, and vanilla on the nose. 2015 Altovinum Evodia

February 8, 2018

From Eric Solomon comes this Garnacha variety from Aragon, Spain.  Hand harvested and aged in French oak this is a dark jammy wine with powerful notes of blueberry, oak, vanilla on the nose and a moderate body with gobs of jam with a good balance between fruit and acidity.  Some cocoa powder too.  Went super well with Manchego cheese and medium intensity Gruyere.  This wine was under $10 and a great value.

Franciscan Estate’s 2003 Magnificat

February 2, 2018

To celebrate a special day I opened a bottle of Franciscan Estate’s 2003 Magnificat. I’ve had this bottle in my cellar for nearly 13 years. Leah prepared a fantastic dinner and this wine went so well. What a treat!

Heron Hills Winery 2015 Eclipse Red

January 17, 2018

Heron Hill created a red blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot that is both affordable and pleasing. With bright ruby in the glass, the aromas of dark berries, smoke, cherry wood, and cassis get the senses piqued. On the palate, the wine is initially a bit tight with moderate tannins and acidity. Further exposure to air brings out more smoke, mild fruit flavors and bittersweet chocolate. Overall it is a good purchase as long as the consumer pairs this meritage with the appropriate entree such as steak or short ribs.
