Bristol Harbour Resort is located on the west side of Canandaigua Lake and offers spectacular views looking south over the lake. The views are unbeatable and worth the drive there. The resort offers overnight accommodations and is known for their spa and championship style golf course.
We journeyed there for dinner near the end of March and although we could not enjoy the foliage or the outside patio we were able to take advantage of the unimpeded vista.
On this particular evening this Adirondack style lodge was busy hosting a wedding reception. This increased the festive nature of the evening since the bar is located within the realm of the dining room itself.
The menu is seasonal with entrees averaging about $25. Leah informed the waitress of her gluten allergy and ordered a Lodge salad ($6.50). This included fresh salad greens with assorted vegetables and olives in a vinaigrette dressing. David ordered a traditional Caesar salad ($7.50). This was a standard Caesar salad but the addition of anchovies was quite welcomed.
For our entrees Leah ordered off the standard menu and chose the Jumbo Sea Scallops ($29.00). No changes were necessary to accommodate Leah’s allergy.
David ordered the day special – Beef Tips served with brussels sprouts and squash alongside whipped potatoes. ($23.00)
No dessert was ordered.
We found our dinners to be just as they were described. Leah’s dinner, with a welcomed asian flare, was the better of the two. The Beef Tips were a bit tough but edible with the mushroom sauce.
One significant criticism of the menu was the significant lack of Finger Lakes wines. There was a minimal selection of Arbor Hill and Heron Hill wines but we expected a better representation of the surrounding appellation.
The service was good. We did make a reservation although this evening none was needed. We were seated immediately and near the windows so we could appreciate the view. Leah was pleased that the chef was able to accommodate her dietary needs and she had no complications.
In summary, Bristol Harbour Restaurant offers a unique dining experience with a casual menu, fair prices and spectacular views. It has a limited Finger Lakes wine menu.
